The Beginning - Journal Entry #1

 

Good Evening, my name is Pedro Jimenez. I'm 18 years old, I’m from a Hispanic household, my first language is Spanish, I was born in Ecuador and lived there the most of my life with my mother and my sisters. I am an artist and I enjoy painting/sketching people mostly; it has been my passion since an early age, I sketch multiple things but I try to focus on human anatomy, I always try to catch anyone’s essence while I draw them. I love playing videogames which sometimes I get competitive with my friends, yet we all end up having fun and enjoy the time we have together. I also love drinking coffee at any time and trying new foods all the time. I always try to have a good time with the people I care about and making sure everyone is having fun and being comfortable with each other.

I live with my parents, and I have two sisters, yet I only live with one of them. What defines my identity I'd say the way I express myself throughout my art. What's more important when defining my own identity, or someone else’s for example I'd say it's your awareness towards your worth as a human being. It is very much important to be aware of who you are, and what you want to be in life and I used to ask myself this question a lot before. After a while of thinking and going through different experiences that life has put in Infront of me, and even as when I’ve failed, I’ve still learned from it and applied it to my life. Experiences give everyone in different ways some kind of growth as humans and being able to define themselves with that experience at some point.

Hello, my name is Pedro Jimenez and this is my blog.  I decided to interview my mother and asked her what her family tree looked like.  My Grandmother was born in Ecuador on April 23, 1943. My Grandfather was born in Ecuador on August 30, 1946. My mother was born in Ecuador on March 14, 1970. My father was born in Ecuador, January 28, 1963.  Written Reflection What are my thoughts on how colored people are treated in the media?      Regarding the Social topic of racism during the 1900s. The film industry had a huge impact on who and how they cast their roles. According to the article "Humiliating Roles Turn Actor into a Cabbie' by Jose Angel Santana. Emphasizes the way white privilege ruled the industry and demand. Minorities such as Latin-Americans and black people were usually portraited with humiliating roles.      Most ill-fated fictional characters come from the ranks of poor, Latino, and 'alien' men. The percentage regarding the performers hired by big film industries is 5% below their U.S. population.      Regards to the African-American timeline, these are some of the events that I consider significant for black history.  1619 -  The first African American indentured servants arrive in the American colonies. Less than a decade later, the first slaves are brought into New Amsterdam (later, New York City). By 1690, every colony has slaves. To satisfy the labor needs of the rapidly growing North American colonies, slavery started to spread throughout the American colonies quickly. African-Americans were treated as humans but objects and mistreated to the point they are just overexploited. They didn't have rights, nor their own freedom. A lot of them died throughout the process out of starvation, overwhelmed, and abuse from their owners.  1868 - The 14th Amendment is ratified, defining citizenship.
